Test Drive Tips

You won't know if you are truely interest in a new car until you have driven it.

Have fun when you go for a test drive. For some people test driving is the most pleasurable part of the buying experience. Here are some test driving tips>>>

• #1 - Make note of needed repairs. Make a written note of anything you notice that needs to be repaired before you purchase the vehicle. Before you sign anything or put down a deposit you'll want to have the dealer agree in writing by when the defect will be fixed.
  
  
• #2 - Test drive in the day light.
  
  
• #3 - Look the vehicle over thoroughly. Look for and dents or nicks.
  
  
• #4 - Test all the systems. Run the AC. Turn on the stereo etc...
  
  
• #5 - Test drive on the highway and back roads. Get a feel for how the vehicle handles in both situations.
  
  
• #6 - Listen for any irregular sounds and road noise. You will be able to hear sounds better if the radio is turned off and you can get your salesman to keep quite for a few minutes. Listen for how much road noise you hear when you are on the highway and back streets.
  
  
• #7 - Check the accessories. These things may seem minor but remember you are probably going to be driving this car for quite some time so make sure it has what you need. Several years ago my mother bought a Honda Civic but neglected to check if the car had two things that were very important to her, a good cup holder and dashboard clock. She ended up driving this car for the next six years. Overall, she was very satisfied with the car, but not having a good cup holder or dash board clock practically drove her crazy. The little things are important so check to make sure the car has the accessories you want.
  
  
• #8 - Check the safety features. Does the car have airbags? If so, where? Where is the spare tire kept? Is it a full size tire or toy tire? How do you remove the spare? Could you do this by yourself in an emergency? What other safety features does the car have? What is the safety rating of the vehicle? Consumer Reports is a good resource for safety ratings.
