Available with front- or all-wheel drive, the RAV4 is the smallest crossover SUV from Toyota. Still, it is reasonably roomy. Front seat passengers are treated well, although taller occupants might want more leg room. In the rear, even average sized adults will want more leg room. Cargo space is good. The new engine, with 2.4-liters of displacement, does better than the 2.0-liter engine offered previously. Acceleration is acceptable, though the engine becomes a little raucous when revved. Handling is good. Note electronic stability enhancement is now standard. The ride is nicely controlled and busy only on rough surfaces. Conclusion: Others may be roomier, but the RAV4 is still a practical and pleasant crossover vehicle. |
