The Z is back, and better than ever. Powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, this rear-wheel drive sports coupe and convertible accelerates briskly, handles securely and rides stiffly, just the way you would expect a sports car to do.

The new convertible lends a new dimension to the "Z" car experience. The body structure is quite stiff, which gives the suspension a solid platform from which to work, so the soft top version is at little or no disadvantage to the coupe in the ride and handling departments.

Steering feel is quite good and the 350Z develops great amounts of grip when cornering. An evaluation of the actual performance is somewhat clouded by the number of versions offered. While the engine is the same, suspension, wheel and tire changes produce somewhat different results on the track and produce vastly different prices on the showroom floor. We believe that the basic model represents the best value.

Cargo room is poor in the hatchback and the convertible. The cargo compartment in the hatchback is cut by a rear suspension brace meant to stiffen the body.

Conclusion: A very nice sports car, fully able to compete with vehicles costing more.
