| The Titan is the first foreign nameplate full-size pickup truck to challenge the domestic brands directly on their highly profitable home turf. That Nissan did its homework before embarking in this endeavor is not good news to the domestic industry. The Titan comes with either an extended (King Cab) or crew cab passenger compartment. All trucks are powered by a massive but refined 5.6-liter V-8 and are equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, four-wheel drive is an option. Performance is excellent. Few trucks are faster on acceleration. The Titan also rides and handles nicely when compared to other big pickups. Drivers will sense the weight of the vehicle in turns or when stopping and the ride can become busy over rough surfaces. As pickup trucks go, however, the Titan is a first class performer. Passenger room and comfort range from acceptable in the extended cab to very good in the crew cab. A host of clever ideas, such as an optional sprayed-on bed liner, make the Titan an even more imposing competitor. Conclusion: As a consumer, you have to love the competition. The Titan is a valid alternative to domestic pickups. |
