Among the last of the front-engine, rear-drive, V-8-powered, body-on-frame full size sedans, the Mercury Grand Marquis, which is based on the Ford Crown Victoria, feels its age. The chassis was significantly modified for 2003. However, the Grand Marquis is still a little clumsy in cornering, although basic handling is sound. The 4.6-liter V-8 falls short of the world?s best engines for performance and refinement in this application. Inside, the front seating area is roomy. In the rear, adults fit, but room is not as generous as you might expect. Front or rear, seat design and cushioning will leave some passengers disappointed. The trunk is large. Conclusion: It?s aging, but it is priced right in the minds of many people. Few cars deliver as much room and a V-8 engine at anything approaching the price.
