| Based on the Nissan Armada, the QX56 gets some extra horsepower, unique styling touches and an upgraded interior to make it ready for the luxury SUV arena. Just about every feature, save for intelligent cruise control, a rearview camera, power sunroof, rear DVD entertainment and satellite radio, is standard. Still, performance mimics the Armada, which costs $14,000 less. Acceleration is good. Handling actually belies the weight and size of the vehicle, although maneuvering in the supermarket parking lot is still a chore. The ride is a little too firm, in the opinion of some passengers. Room and comfort in the first and second row seats are good. The third row requires effort to reach and, once there, adults will find little reason to stay. Room is tight and the cushions are uncomfortable. Cargo space to the rear of the third seat is modest. Fold the seats, however, and a large interior is revealed. Conclusion: Among the better driving large SUVs, but the third row is not up to competitive standards, the ride is too firm for some and the vehicle guzzles just as much fuel as the others in the field. |
