| Infiniti's near-luxury family sedan delivers an exceptional, but not quite perfect, performance. Also available as a sporty coupe with an available six-speed manual, the G-series cars accelerate briskly, thanks to their 3.5-liter V-6 engines. Handling is good, and stability control is standard equipment. However, with the stability management system turned off, these cars can become a little twitchy when driven hard, suggesting that the chassis could use a little more development. All-wheel drive is an option on the sedan. Sedans are roomier and more comfortable in front than the coupe, and are much better in the back seat. The sedan's back seat is actually much better than average for this class. Trunk room is also above average. The instruments adjust for height with the steering wheel, depriving some drivers of a clear view of the top of some instruments, regardless of the steering wheel setting. Tall drivers also have to contend with instrument panel reflections at the top of the windshield at night. Power seat controls are unique and, as in the FX, located on the top of the seat cushions at the side. Conclusions: A very nice near luxury sedan, though not quite the equal of the best from Europe when it comes to handling. |
