| As good as the last generation Odyssey was, the new design, introduced for 2005, is better. Aside from a noticeable stiffening of the steering when accelerating out of a corner, the new Odyssey drives with near minivan perfection. It is stable, tracks beautifully and corners as if it were a very good sedan. Riding comfort is high. Top models are given several interesting features, including an engine that shuts down three of its six cylinders when their power is unneeded. The result is better economy. When more power is required for acceleration or to maintain speed up a hill, the three feathered cylinders get back to work with nary a hint that they were ever out action. Only a light on the instrument panel alerts the driver to the transitions. Despite this feature, fuel economy is mediocre. Passenger room in the front and second rows is good. The third row is less appealing to adults. It flips and folds to form a flat floor. Honda also includes a floor-mounted lazy Susan storage system in higher level models. Conclusion: What was one of the best minivans is now even better. |
