| As with the Chevrolet Suburban on which it is based, the Yukon XL can only be described as huge. The interior is cavernous, with ample space for passengers in the front, second and third row seats. Access to the third row is challenging, however. Width accommodates three adults with ease. Cargo space behind the raised third row seat is impressive. Ride and handling are truck-like, although this vehicle is surprisingly controllable, considering its size. Some expansion joints taken at highway speeds can produce abrupt ride motions, but generally, these vehicles tend to float over larger bumps. Handling is sluggish and vague. Braking with four-wheel discs is markedly better than in the previous generation vehicles, but stopping distances are still long. Setting the Yukon apart from the Suburban, buyers can opt for a 6.0-liter V-8, in place of the standard 5.3-liter engine. Conclusion: For those needing the ultimate in interior capacity, for either passengers or cargo, the Yukon XL is a good choice. |
