Now you see it, soon you won't. Ford is once again pulling the Thunderbird from production, although the date for the end remains in doubt. The two-seat retro styled convertible apparently has not sold in sufficient numbers to justify its existence, though Ford claims that planned only a limited engagement from the very beginning.

Its fate aside, the current Thunderbird is a pleasant grand touring machine. No sports car, it nonetheless turns in a credible performance on the track. Handling is quite good while the ride is pleasantly relaxed. The body structure has a little too much cowl quake for the price range, however.

On the street, there are few cars more pleasant around town with the top down. The engine is smooth and powerful, the five-speed automatic shifts nicely and the car proves to be comfortable and responsive.

Conclusion: It is too soon to know if it will turn into a collectable classic, but it is still appealing to people who want a comfortable, two seat convertible.
