| Designed to "out Suburban" GM's full-size SUVs, the Ford Excursion has demonstrated that at some point, bigger is not better. While larger and heavier than the Suburban, the Excursion fails to provide any meaningful advantages for the vast majority of consumers over its gargantuan rival. The Excursion feels very much like a truck. Steering is sluggish. The ride is stiff and bouncy and braking from high speeds covers a lot of real estate. Granted, it can carry nine people, all in surprising comfort. The second row seat is particularly attractive for adults. Getting in and out, however is a chore because of the vehicle's height. Performance with the diesel or V-8 is dull. The V-10 should do better, but all version will use an inordinate amount of fuel. Conclusion: Only for those people who really need all the space or all the towing capacity all of the time. Otherwise, look elsewhere. |
