Ford's F-150 continues to define what America wants in a pickup truck. Its redesign for 2004 can be considered a success. The new vehicle demonstrated much improved ride and handling. Interior treatments in the more luxurious trim lines would make many luxury car owners envious. All F-150s are now four-door models, even the regular cab versions. There, the rear clamshell doors are short but still provide a valuable assist in reaching objects stored behind the seat. Extended and crew cab model complete the lineup. Only V-8s were originally available, and both the 4.6-liter and 5.4-liter engines do well. When Ford fills out the lineup with a six, it can be expected to appeal primarily to buyers needing the size of the F-150 but not great weight carrying ability. If handling rates accolades, the ride can be a little abrupt in the F-150. The new frame, however, is noticeably more resistant to flexing than was the case in previous F-150. Conclusion: Ford offers something for every pickup truck buyer in the F-150. Its combination of utility, handling, ride qualities and interior treatments make it easy to recommend. |
