While it shares its name with the sedan, the Stratus coupe is an entirely different vehicle. It is based on the platform used for the Mitsubishi Eclipse, uses Mitsubishi engines and is even built in a Mitsubishi plant.

Despite that, it shares its ride qualities with its namesake sedan, not the Eclipse, and turns in a reasonably smooth performance on the highway. Credit revised suspension calibrations and a longer wheelbase.

Handling proves to be better than the sedan's, too. The car is agile and responsive. Acceleration with the V-6 engine is also better in the coupe than in the sedan, despite identical horsepower ratings.

Headroom may be tight for some taller drivers. Rear seat room is better than in many competitors, but still not sufficient to make adults feel welcome.

Conclusion: A coupe that turns in a good, but not inspiring, performance. Others may not be as practical, but they are probably better at quickening the pulse.
