| Thanks to its distinctive styling, the Dodge Ram has turned into the Chrysler Group's best selling model. No extended cab is offered. Instead, Dodge builds regular cab and Quad Cab models. The Quad cab offers four doors, crew-cab style, but pulls up a little shy in rear seat room. Consider it a cross between an extended cab and full crew cab design. The base V-6 is for light duty use only. The 4.7-liter and 5.7-liter V8s do much better in general pickup truck applications. The SRT-10 is an outrageous and expensive sport truck with excellent acceleration and handling. Actually, all the Rams handle nicely for the full-size pickup truck field. They stick in corners and the steering provides good feedback. Braking is also good. The ride, however, is busy and somewhat more direct when the cargo bed is empty than is the case in some competitors. Conclusion: If you love the style, you can buy this truck with a clear conscience. The Ram is a competent pickup. |
