| The Pacifica is hard to define. Chrysler says it s a minivan-sport utility vehicle mix with many of the traits of a passenger car. Regardless of the label, the Pacifica is heavy and the V-6 engine struggles during brisk acceleration. The four-speed automatic shifts smoothly, however, and must do so frequently to keep the pace up. Finishing the list of complaints is poor rear visibility. Ride and handling are first rate, exceeding that found in most other minivans and just about every sport utility vehicle. The Pacifica is comfortable, stable and quiet on the highway. Though reasonably large, interior room is still somewhat disappointing when the vehicle's size is considered. Nonetheless, it is comfortable for four adults and two children. The seating layout in the original Pacifica models was unusual, with two passengers in each of three rows. A two-row, five passenger version has been added for 2005. Conclusion: The ride and handling are impressive. The drivetrain is less appealing, but still acceptable. Add in good stability and crash test ratings and this could be a prime choice for family transport. |
