The Chevrolet Corvette, America's sports car, is all new for 2005. It is more refined than ever, yet its performance remains impressive. Acceleration is blindingly fast. Track trials demonstrate that the engine remains potent, even at triple-digit speeds. Handling is impressive. Cornering capabilities move the Corvette into direct competition with some supercars that cost tens of thousands of dollars more. More important, the Corvette remains predictable when pressed through tight turns, even at high speeds. An added bonus: Stability enhancement stands ready to help if a driver gets in over his head. Despite the added refinement and somewhat trimmer exterior dimensions, there is still a brutish air about the car that Corvette enthusiasts will love. A blip of the throttle can still produce a visceral reaction from the faithful. The interior, which is much nicer than ever before, could be better, however. One vestige of previous Corvettes remains. The transmission and drivetrain tunnel can become too warm for comfort after just a few miles. Conclusion: The Corvette is better than ever and, despite climbing prices, it remains a performance bargain. |
