| The Chevrolet Avalanche is a unique four-door, five-passenger pickup truck. While the load box is small for the size of the vehicle, a unique mid-gate allows objects up to eight feet long to be carried by folding the rear seat and opening the passenger compartment at the rear. Normally, the load box is covered by a three piece composite cover that keeps weather and prying eyes off most cargo. Remove these panels and taller objects can be accommodated. When the mid-gate at the rear of the passenger compartment is opened and the rear window removed for the greatest cargo capacity, heating and air conditioning are sufficiently powerful to keep front seat passengers comfortable. The Avalanche is powered by a 5.3-liter V-8. Acceleration average and fuel consumption is high. The four-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly. Adults will find ample space in the front and second row seats. Width accommodates three adults with ease. Ride and handling are truck-like. The ride is generally comfortable, but it can be busy, or even abrupt, over some surfaces. Handling is sluggish and vague. Conclusion: This unique design meets a wide range of needs for transporting cargo and passengers. |
