| The replacement for the front-wheel drive Seville, the STS is a rear- or all-wheel drive sedan based on the CTS' platform. Power comes from either a V-6 or V-8 engine. All-wheel drive is optional. Initial test drives revealed that this car is probably the best Cadillac yet. Acceleration with the V-6 is satisfying. It is much more impressive with the V-8. The five-speed automatic shifts with near perfection. Handling is a high point. The car tracks beautifully, yet changes direction eagerly and with precision. In many ways, the V-6 powered STS feels better balanced in sharp turns, although the V-8's substantial power advantage will, no doubt, be appealing to many buyers. Based on readouts from the trip computer, the V-6 turned in substantially better fuel economy results in hilly terrain. Inside, the STS is buttoned down nicely. Materials are generally first rate and early production vehicles showed careful assembly. Room and comfort in the front seats are good. The rear seat is a little tight for adults, but it should be noted that the same can be said of the European and Japanese luxury cars with which the STS will compete. Conclusion: A winner from Cadillac. Few people will think twice about the Seville once they drive the STS. |
