| The arrival of the 3.6-liter V-6 last year gave the Rendezvous an important boost in performance. Available in the CXL trim level as an option, this 242-horsepower engine is standard in the Ultra. Base CX buyers make do with a 185-horsepower 3.4-liter V-6. Regardless of engine, the Rendezvous is quiet on the highway. Performance improves noticeably with the larger engine, of course. The standard engine feels weak when merging or passing. Handling is disappointing. When turned, the Rendezvous responds sluggishly and the body leans noticeably. The front tires protest and the vehicle runs wide at the front in emergency maneuvers. The ride is soft and previous versions could have used more control when encountering large bumps at speed. Interior noise levels are suitably low. Inside, front seat occupants have ample room. The second row seats adjust back and forth. Fully forward, room for adults is in short supply. Moved back, things improve for second row passengers, however, leg-room then nearly disappears for the folks in the third row. With all three rows in use, cargo capacity is very small. Conclusion: Most buyers would probably be better served by a minivan, which Buick now offers. If this is unacceptable, think of the Rendezvous as a station wagon, not a sport utility vehicle. | |
